If you have ever used winamp and changed its skins, thats what exactly templates do to Joomla. They fundamentally change the way your site looks. The functionality of your site is maintained exactly as before, but you can have a complete layout overhaul by just changing your Joomla template.

1. Joomla Webmaster Basic (or equivalent) expertise.
2. Good design skills using your favourite application (Photoshop, Fireworks, GIMP, Inkscape to name a few).
3. Ability to create HTML layouts from a design.
4. Knowledge about using the internet in general - hyperlinks, searching on google and downloading files.
5. Very good knowledge about CSS.
6. Javascript knowledge will help you create tools like style changer and font resizer.
7. Knowledge about a coding language (PHP prefered) to enable you to include collapsible module positions.

You will work better if you have-

• An eye for detail.
• Knowledge about cross browser compliancy and working through it.
• (X)HTML & CSS validation experience.
